Cookies and device storage
Last updated 18 October 2026
Billbase stores a few small things in your browser so you stay logged in and the app works properly. This page lists all of them.
In short
- No advertising cookies and no tracking pixels. That's why there's no cookie banner.
- We only store what's needed to keep you logged in, remember your data and settings, keep the site safe and working, and count visits.
- Payment happens on Stripe's own checkout page, so Stripe's cookies are set there, under Stripe's policy, not on our site.
- Fonts are served from our own domain. Nothing loads from Google, Meta or ad networks.
What we store
| What | Type | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
Login sessionsb-…-auth-token | Local storage, set when you log in | Keeps you logged in between visits. | Until you log out |
Your data and settingsbillbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase. | Local storage, set by Billbase | A copy of your subscriptions, workspaces, payment method labels, logos, profile and preferences, so the app opens instantly and keeps working if your connection drops. It syncs with your account. An older copy under renewell.subscriptions.v1 is moved here and removed. | Until you clear this site's data in your browser |
Sync bookkeepingbillbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase. | Local storage, set by Billbase, never synced | Which account the copy on this device belongs to, whether an account has been used on this browser (so one account's leftovers never upload into another), and changes not yet confirmed saved. If some changes couldn't be saved when you log out, they stay here, tied to your account, and are saved the next time you log in on this browser; after 30 days they expire. An old item, billbase.cloud.writtenAt, is removed when found. | Until you clear this site's data; changes kept after logging out, 30 days |
Device-only helpersbillbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase.billbase. | Local storage, set by Billbase, never synced | Logo colours and fit worked out from images, so logos don't need re-reading; which Billy question suggestions you've already been shown, which reminders you've opened and whether you've hidden this month's report notice in the sidebar, per account; how often moving an old profile photo to private storage has failed, so it's retried and reported. billbase.storage-check is written and removed at once to test that storage works. | Until you clear this site's data in your browser |
Tab helpersbillbase.billbase.billbase. | Session storage, set by Billbase | When you last closed a Billy chat, so reopening it soon after picks up the same conversation, and when the page last reloaded itself after an update, so it never reloads in a loop. billbase.capture is set only if you open Billbase with ?capture=1, to draw its colour lights for screen recordings. | Until you close the tab |
Shared-link markerbillbase.billbase. | Local storage, set by Billbase (the second item in session storage) | If you arrived through a link someone shared, remembers whose link it was, so it can be counted if you create an account. The second marker, in session storage, stops the same visit being counted twice. Never shared with anyone. | Removed when you log in within 30 days; after that it's no longer used and stays until you clear this site's data. The second marker goes when you close the tab |
| __cf_bm | Cookie, set by Cloudflare (the network our host runs on) | Tells people from automated bots, to protect the site from abuse. It isn't linked to your account and isn't used to follow you across sites. | 30 minutes after your last activity |
| __dpl | Cookie, set by our hosting provider | Keeps your visit on one version of the site while we release an update, so pages don't mix old and new code. | 24 hours |
| session-id | Cookie, set by our host's visit statistics | Groups the pages you open in one visit, so we can count visits. It holds a random code, isn't linked to your account and isn't used for advertising. | 30 minutes |
When you buy Pro, you leave our site for Stripe's checkout page. Stripe and Link store their own cookies there, under their own policies: Stripe's cookie policy.
Why there's no cookie banner
Dutch law (article 11.7a of the Telecommunicatiewet) requires consent for cookies and similar storage, except when they are strictly necessary for a service you asked for, or measure how well the service works with little or no impact on your privacy.
Everything above falls into those groups. The login session and your data keep the app you're using working. Our hosting provider's cookies protect the site from automated abuse and keep each visit on one version of the site.
Two items measure how Billbase is used. The visit-statistics cookie lives for 30 minutes, holds only a random code, and is used to count visits for us, never for advertising or to follow you to other sites. The shared-link marker stays in your browser and our own database, is never passed to third parties, and only counts which ways of sharing Billbase lead to sign-ups. What the statistics record is explained in our Privacy Policy.
If we ever add anything that needs your consent, we'll ask for it first and update this page.
Managing it
You can clear everything Billbase stores at any time in your browser's settings, under site data for billbase.app. You'll be logged out, and your data will load again from your account the next time you log in. If you block storage for this site completely, you won't be able to stay logged in.
